As the calendar shifted from February to March, the outbreak of the current conflict in the Middle East triggered rapid and significant geopolitical shifts. The United States and Israel attacked Iran, which responded with missile and drone attacks targeting regional oil and gas infrastructure, shipping vessels, airports, and even technology firms—a development one analyst termed “Iran’s war on the global economy.” The most direct consequence has been the near-complete closure of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passageway for approximately 20-25% of the world’s oil and gas supply.
